2022 Civic Trust Award For 50 years in business

Steve’s Pizzeria & Family Restaurant

In 1960, Stefano Giuseppe D’Angelo left his home in Sicily and traveled by ship to the United States looking for the American dream.  With $1.00 in his pocket, Stefano stayed with extended family in Brooklyn, NY, until he found work.  He got a job as a presser in a funeral home and then started working with his cousin in a pizzeria in Queens, NY.  This is where Steve learned how to make his first pizza pie.

Settling into life in NY, Steve got married in 1962 and started a family in 1964. Working in his cousin’s pizzeria, he was able to learn the English language through customer interaction and learned how a to run a small business.

Stefano also used this time to create his perfect pizza. After years of hard work and determination, he opened his first pizzeria in Queens. A few years later and a successful start at his own business, Steve was introduced to Jay Pirelli through family who lived in Easton. Jay owned a meat market at 1005 S. Greenwood Avenue. He agreed to split his building and sell half to Stefano to open his pizza shop in 1969. And lucky for us, Steve’s Sicilian pizza arrived in Palmer Township!

When Jay decided to retire in 1970, he sold the other half of the building to Stefano.  After a couple of years, he built on that original structure to add a dining room and bar and Steve’s Pizzeria and Family Restaurant was opened for business.

Steve’s Pizzeria and Italian Family restaurant remains the place to go for quality Italian/American food and a home away from home for loyal patrons. Stefano instilled the importance of hard work, education and determination to his children Theresa, Steve and Fran which is now passed down to the next generation.

Stefano passed away in January of 2021 but has left behind both a legacy for his family and the best Sicilian pizza.

BIP congratulates Steve’s Pizzeria and Italian Family Restaurant on your success! Accepting this award tonight is Theresa D’Angelo.
